A Reflection from Gabby

This month’s membership theme is space.
Not the kind you create by doing more or getting everything in order. But the kind that’s already there, quietly waiting, if you give yourself a moment to notice it.
I’ve been thinking about that in a different way this month.
We recently said goodbye to Vinnie, our adored companion for almost 14 years, a real little character and a key member of our family. What’s left is a kind of space you can’t really prepare for, a quiet where something familiar used to be. Small moments in the day that feel different now.

It would be easy to try to fill that, to keep moving, to distract or to smooth it over. But there’s something in letting it be there too.
Because that space isn’t just empty, it’s full in its own way. Of memories, of routines that still linger. Of a love that doesn’t go anywhere, even when the shape of it has changed.
And maybe that’s what space really is. Not something we need to force or fix. But something we can gently sit with, even when it feels unfamiliar.
We didn’t realise it when we chose it, but this month’s theme feels quietly dedicated to Vinnie.
And slowly, in those quieter moments, there’s a sense that the space softens a little.
Not because it’s filled, but because you begin to recognise what’s still there.
Something steady. Something familiar in a different way, because the space he’s left hasn’t really gone anywhere.
It’s just shifted into a different kind of space, one we carry with us, in our hearts.
